Veterans & First Responders Weekly Update
President’s Message
Memorial Day invites us to pause, to remember, and to honor the men and women who gave everything in service to our country and communities. Across America, rows of white headstones stand in silent formation at places like Arlington National Cemetery, reminding us of courage, sacrifice, and duty carried to the very end. For many who have stood there, the experience leaves an emotional mark. It stirs gratitude, sorrow, pride, and reverence all at once. We remember those who never came home, the families who carried on without them, and the extraordinary willingness of ordinary people to place service above self.
Yet Memorial Day also quietly reminds us of another truth—one that is harder to talk about, but no less important. For some veterans and first responders, the war did not end when they came home. Some carried burdens that others could not see, memories that lingered, grief that settled in quietly, or a growing sense of distance from the camaraderie and purpose that once shaped daily life. A military unit, patrol car, station house, or ambulance crew often becomes family, and when that structure fades, isolation can creep in slowly and quietly.
Many of us have stood before another kind of headstone as well—one belonging to a veteran or first responder whose life ended not in combat or on an emergency scene, but in the unseen struggle that followed service. The grief of that loss is no less real. The sadness is no less profound. Seeing those names, those dates, and imagining the stories left unfinished carries its own kind of heartbreak.
That reality is part of why The Veterans Club exists.
We believe something very simple: Connection saves lives. Not every life-changing moment begins with a grand gesture. Sometimes it begins with a cup of coffee, a handshake, a shared laugh, or someone asking, “How have you been?” at a Patriot Pour gathering. Sometimes it begins with a familiar face noticing you missed a meeting or a conversation that gently reminds you that you still belong somewhere.
What starts as coffee often becomes something far more meaningful. Trust becomes friendship. Friendship becomes belonging. Belonging becomes purpose. Over time, simple weekly conversations can become life-giving relationships that bring joy, accountability, support, and companionship for years—even decades. A person who once felt disconnected finds themselves laughing again, showing up again, and rediscovering the quiet comfort of community.
This Memorial Day, we honor those who gave all. We remember those we lost too soon, including those whose battles followed them home. And we recommit ourselves to building something worthy of their sacrifice: a community where veterans and first responders know there is always a chair waiting for them, where friendships matter, and where nobody has to walk through life carrying the weight alone.
If you know someone who has gone quiet, consider reaching out. Invite them to coffee. Bring them to a Patriot Pour. Sometimes the most meaningful act of service is simply showing up for one another. Because honoring the fallen also means caring for the living.

One More Thing… Bring the Family

This Thursday, May 28th at 5:00 PM, we will gather again for our monthly dinner engagement, and I want to encourage you to think of this gathering a little differently than our weekly Patriot Pour meetings.
Yes, I know… some of you may jokingly suspect this is simply my excuse to enjoy another meal out on the town. While I will neither confirm nor deny that accusation, the truth is these dinners serve an important purpose inside The Veterans Club.
Patriot Pour was intentionally designed for veterans and first responders. It gives us a place to reconnect with people who understand the life we lived, to laugh, tell stories, complain about bad knees, solve the world’s problems over coffee, and build friendships rooted in shared experience. Those weekly gatherings matter deeply because connection among peers matters.
But our monthly dinners are something different.
These evenings are about family.
They are about inviting spouses, partners, and loved ones into the community that surrounds us. Families often carry the quiet weight of service too. They are the ones who see the hard days, notice the silence, recognize when something feels off, and quietly worry when someone they love begins to withdraw. Long before most of us are willing to say we are struggling, the people closest to us usually already know.
That is why these dinners matter so much.
When a spouse sits at a table and begins to understand what The Veterans Club really is—not just a coffee gathering, but a real community intentionally created to reduce isolation and strengthen friendships—it changes something. I have heard it many times after dinner gatherings: “I had no idea what The Veterans Club was until I attended a dinner,” or “I see now why Thursday morning is so important for my husband.”
Those moments matter because they create understanding. They create trust. And they reassure families that their loved one is not walking through life alone.
Sadness is a normal human emotion. We all experience loss, disappointment, frustration, and difficult seasons. But loneliness—the kind that settles in quietly and convinces someone they no longer belong—is something we are working hard to erase.
Healing often happens around ordinary tables.
A shared meal. Familiar faces. Spouses laughing together. Stories being exchanged. New friendships forming between families who suddenly realize they are not carrying life’s burdens alone.
So this Thursday, bring your family. Introduce them to the people you spend Thursday mornings with. Let them experience the community being built around you. Because when families understand The Veterans Club, something powerful happens: connection grows stronger, belonging grows deeper, and loneliness begins to lose its grip.
