Day of Hope Brings Community Together

Last Saturday, The Veterans Club was honored to participate as one of more than two dozen community organizations at Day of Hope at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds. The annual event, hosted by 208 Ministries, brought together hundreds of North Idaho residents with local nonprofits, churches, and service organizations committed to serving the community.

Representing The Veterans Club were Ed Bejarana, Tom Lucas, and Jim Marrymee, who spent the day welcoming visitors, answering questions, and sharing the mission of the organization. Throughout the event, they introduced dozens of veterans, first responders, and community members to Patriot Pour gatherings held each week across North Idaho.

One of the biggest attractions at The Veterans Club booth was Tucker, Ed Bejarana’s service dog. Tucker quickly became a favorite among visitors of all ages, happily greeting families and helping create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. More than once, Tucker became the perfect icebreaker, making it easy for conversations to begin naturally and allowing volunteers to share how The Veterans Club is helping veterans and first responders find friendship, purpose, and belonging.

Reflecting on the day, Ed said, “The event was a natural extension of The Veterans Club’s mission because there were so many people simply needing a positive interaction. By the end of the day, my face hurt from smiling so much.”

That simple observation captures what Day of Hope is all about. While many organizations were providing food, clothing, school supplies, and community resources, The Veterans Club was there to offer something that lasts long after the event ends—a place where veterans and first responders can gather every week, build genuine friendships, and know they belong.

We are grateful to 208 Ministries for organizing another outstanding Day of Hope and for giving local organizations the opportunity to work together in serving our neighbors. Events like these remind us that hope is often found in a simple conversation, a warm smile, and a community that cares.
