FRAUD ALERT: Beware of the “Veterans Savings Program” Postcard Scam

Written/Narrated by:  Ed Bejarana | Published on: June 18, 2026

The Veterans Club is alerting veterans, military families, and surviving spouses about a scam currently circulating through the mail.

Scammers are sending official-looking postcards promoting a so-called “Veterans Savings Program” and claiming recipients may qualify for additional benefits, including an extra $185 monthly payment, dental benefits, and other government-sponsored assistance.

This program does not exist.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), these mailers are fraudulent and are designed to mislead veterans and their families into providing personal information or engaging with organizations that are not affiliated with the VA.

What You Should Know

  • There is no legitimate VA program called the “Veterans Savings Program.”
  • The VA is not issuing an additional $185 monthly payment through this program.
  • Official VA benefit changes and announcements are communicated directly through verified VA channels.
  • Never provide personal information, Social Security numbers, banking information, or VA account details in response to unsolicited mailings, phone calls, emails, or text messages.

How to Protect Yourself

  1. Be skeptical of unsolicited offers promising new or increased benefits.
  2. Verify benefit information directly through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  3. Consult a trusted Veteran Service Officer (VSO) before responding to any benefit-related solicitation.
  4. Report suspected scams to the VA and appropriate authorities.

Stay Informed

The VA has released a fraud alert and educational materials to help veterans recognize this scam and protect themselves from fraud.

If you receive one of these postcards, do not respond to it. Instead, verify any benefit information through official VA resources or your local Veteran Service Officer.

Please share this warning with fellow veterans, first responders, military families, and surviving spouses. Awareness is one of the best defenses against fraud.

Connection saves lives. Information protects our community.
