Honor Flight Home Coming At Spokane Airport. WOW!!!!
I went on the Honor Flight. I got up at 0-Dark-30 Wednesday AM and we flew to DC. We went to the Vietnam Wall to pay our respects along with the WWII memorial, the Korean war memorial, Arlington Cemetery and we watched the Changing of the Guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. We also toured the Navy memorial, the Airforce memorial and the USMC memorial which was a giant statue of the flag being raised at IWO Jima. It was very impressive. It was an all expense paid trip paid trip for Vietnam veterans. It was absolutely surreal. I went with a close friend of mine who I went to high school with. The Wall kind of tore him up a little bit. I didn’t cry because I no longer had any tears left. I’ve been to the moving wall several times and it always tore me up. When I saw the real wall up front close and personal I managed to put it in a little box somewhere in my mind so it wouldn’t hurt me. But the one thing that brought me to tears was the reception that we got at the Spokane Airport. It was the welcome home that we never got. There were lots of young children there to greet us. It gives me hope for our country. A lot of us (all of us) were spit on and treated like shit when we came home. We suffered silently at home because we were discriminated against when it came to employment and raises. We suffered with PTSD which also affected our employment. this Home Coming video is very uplifting. This was the Welcome Home that we never got. Kudos to my good friend Angela Faire for recording this video. And great thanks to my wife Margaret who was there waiting to greet me as I came down the ramp and walked through this crowd of over one thousand people who were there to greet us.
