GMRS Radio Class
Written/Narrated by: Jeff Coder | Published on: January 13, 2025
WHAT: GMRS Radio Class
WHEN: Jan 21st at 6:00 PM
WHERE: VFW Post 889 406 4th St. CDA
I will be teaching a GMRS radio class at the VFW on Jan 21st at 6:00 PM. Be sure to enter the building using the side door (long ramp) on the north side of the building. The class is designed around the Baofeng AR5RM radio. If you don’t have one yet, see the link at the bottom.
In the class I will be programming radios so everyone has the same channels and frequencies on their radios. I will be handing out a channel chart, a class outline, and additional material related to GMRS radio.
I will be showing you how to work the menu system on the AR5RM radio along with all of the other features that pertain to GMRS radio. The emphasis will be on emergency communication. We will practice transmitting using scrambled/encrypted features in the radio for private conversations.
At the end of the class I will be working with people to help them get their GMRS license. No test is required to get a GMRS license but the FCC requires you to have a GMRS license to legally transmit on the GMRS frequencies. If you do not have your GMRS license please bring your laptop with you so we can work thru it together. Better yet, go to mygmrs.com and click on the purple link at the bottom and follow the prompts that will guide you through the process of getting your GMRS license. If you can do this ahead of time it will be appreciated as it will make the class go a little bit faster so we can cover everything in a timely manner.
If you already have your radio bring it with you to the Wednesday meetings and we can all work with our radios after the meeting. I see it as continuing education. You can take a class but this is a chance to practice what we learn in the class or get some practice before taking the class.
We’ll see you on the 21st.
