Help VFW Post 889 Build a New Patriotic Hangout in Coeur d’Alene

VFW Post 889 in Coeur d’Alene is creating something special—a new Patriots Bar designed to celebrate the service and history of our local veterans, military members, police officers, firefighters, and first responders.

Now they need our community’s help filling the walls with history.

VFW Post 889 is looking for military, police, and fire memorabilia that can be displayed throughout the new patriotic bar. Rather than simply decorating the space, the goal is to surround visitors with authentic items representing the people who have served our country and communities.

Every item has a story.

What They’re Looking For

VFW Post 889 is seeking donated memorabilia including:

• Military patches and insignia
• Police, fire, and military badges
• Ribbons, medals, and awards
• Helmets and headgear
• American flags, military flags, and guidons
• Challenge coins
• Military photographs and framed prints
• Uniforms and military gear
• Equipment and field gear
• Police and fire department memorabilia
• Items representing the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force

Whether it is an old unit patch tucked away in a drawer, a photograph from someone’s years of service, a challenge coin, an old uniform, or a piece of police or firefighting history, it may be exactly what they’re looking for.

Help Preserve the Stories Behind the Items

We especially like the idea behind this project because these aren’t simply decorations.

For veterans and first responders, an old patch, badge, photograph, helmet, or uniform can represent a particular assignment, deployment, department, station, ship, unit, or chapter of someone’s life.

Putting these items on display gives those stories another opportunity to be remembered and shared.

The new Patriots Bar at VFW Post 889 will provide a place where those pieces of history can become part of a larger tribute to service.
