Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund

When Life Gets Difficult, Our Community Stands Together

Veterans and first responders spend their careers answering the call when others need help.

Sometimes, they and their families need someone to answer the call for them.

The Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund was established by The Veterans Club to provide financial assistance to veterans, first responders, and their families experiencing unexpected financial hardship.

A serious illness. An injury. A house fire. The loss of a job. A death in the family. An unexpected emergency.

Life can change quickly, and even families who have always been financially responsible can suddenly find themselves struggling.

The Veterans Club wants our veteran and first responder community to know they don’t have to face those moments alone.

Who Can Request Assistance?

The fund is available to:

  • Veterans
  • Active and retired first responders
  • Immediate family members of veterans and first responders
  • Families experiencing financial hardship related to an eligible veteran or first responder

You do not need to be a member of The Veterans Club to request assistance.

What Kind of Help Is Available?

Every family’s circumstances are different, so we intentionally keep the fund flexible.

Financial assistance may be considered for needs associated with:

  • Serious illness or medical treatment
  • Loss of income due to illness or injury
  • Housing or temporary housing
  • Utilities and essential household expenses
  • Food and transportation
  • Funeral or burial expenses
  • Fire, wildfire, flood, or other disasters
  • Emergency family travel
  • Unexpected family emergencies
  • Other significant financial hardships

If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, please contact us.

We would rather have a conversation and learn about your circumstances than have someone decide on their own that they shouldn’t ask for help.

How Does the Process Work?

Requests for assistance are reviewed by The Veterans Club.

We may ask for information or reasonable documentation that helps us understand the circumstances and financial need. Our goal is not to make an already difficult situation more complicated. We simply have a responsibility to our donors and the people we serve to make sure charitable funds are distributed appropriately.

All financial assistance requires approval by The Veterans Club Board of Directors and is based upon demonstrated need, available resources, and the circumstances of each request.

Assistance is not guaranteed, and the amount and method of assistance may vary depending upon the situation.

Whenever practical, requests will be handled with sensitivity and respect for the privacy and dignity of the individuals and families involved.

How Donations to the Fund Work

Donations to the Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund help The Veterans Club respond when veterans, first responders, and their families experience financial hardship.

From time to time, we may conduct a fundraising campaign highlighting a particular person, family, emergency, or community need.

These stories allow our community to rally around people when they need help most.

Donations made through these campaigns are charitable contributions to The Veterans Club’s Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund. The Veterans Club Board of Directors retains responsibility for approving charitable distributions from the fund.

When donations associated with a particular hardship exceed the amount ultimately approved or required for that need, remaining funds stay within the Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund and may be used to assist other eligible veterans, first responders, and families experiencing financial hardship.

This allows today’s generosity to continue helping people tomorrow.

Want to Help?

You don’t have to wait for an emergency to make a difference.

Contributions to the Veteran and First Responder Financial Hardship Fund help ensure resources are available when someone in our community suddenly needs a helping hand.

Your contribution could help a veteran facing unexpected medical expenses, a first responder family dealing with a crisis, or a family trying to recover after a disaster.

Every contribution helps strengthen the safety net our community provides for those who have spent their lives serving others.

Need Assistance?

Asking for help isn’t always easy.

If you are a veteran, first responder, or family member experiencing financial hardship, please contact us.

Send us an email telling us a little about what’s happening, your connection to the veteran or first responder community, and how you believe The Veterans Club may be able to help.

We may contact you for additional information or documentation so we can better understand your circumstances.

Requests are considered individually and are subject to available funding and approval by The Veterans Club Board of Directors.

We Take Care of Our Own

The Veterans Club exists to end veteran and first responder suicide through connection, purpose, and service.

Usually that means gathering around a table, sharing a meal, volunteering together, making a phone call, or simply being there when someone needs a friend.

Sometimes it means something more tangible.

Sometimes it means helping keep the lights on.

Helping a family through an illness.

Helping someone recover after a fire.

Or simply helping a veteran or first responder get through a difficult month.

That’s what community is supposed to do.

When one of our own needs a helping hand, The Veterans Club stands ready to answer the call.
