Free Suicide Prevention Training: Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS)

The Veterans Club encourages our members, chapter leaders, families, and community supporters to take advantage of this practical, free training.

Date: April 13, 2026
Location: The American Legion Post 143 1138 E Poleline Ave, Post Falls, Idaho

Training Sessions (choose one):

  • Morning Session: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM
  • Midday Session: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
  • Evening Session: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

This training covers the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), also known as the Columbia Protocol. It is a simple, evidence-based tool that uses plain-language questions anyone can learn to ask—no mental health background required.

What You Will Learn

  • How to identify whether someone is having thoughts of suicide (ideation)
  • How to assess the severity and immediacy of risk
  • What actions someone may have taken to prepare for or attempt suicide
  • How to determine the level of support or referral needed

The training equips participants with practical skills for caring conversations that can help save lives.
