The Sandpoint Chapter of The Veterans Club kicks off this Monday, November 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Sandpoint Elks Lodge, 30196 Highway 200, Ponderay, ID 83852. This inaugural gathering is open to all veterans and first responders—Elks membership is not required. For more information, call (208) 263-4321.
Do you love to read? Reading is a basic skill we sometimes take for granted. Unfortunately, according to Public School Review, only 50% of high school graduates read at grade level.
One of The Veterans Club’s approaches to community leadership is leading by example. In the area of reading, we already run three children’s literacy programs: Operation: Story Time, Sight Through Story, and Stories That Shouldn’t Be Forgotten. The Veterans Book Club is the next step in showing our love for reading.
Our goal is to read books written by members of The Veterans Club, local North Idaho authors, and veterans. The first two books on our list are written by club members and are available on Amazon. At the December meeting, Jason will have signed copies of his book available for purchase. The December meeting will also be a group discussion to choose books three, four, and five. I’ll bring several options for us to consider. If you email info@theveteransclub.org, I’ll send you the info sheet ahead of time so you can review the choices before you arrive. If you have other books to suggest, email the title and author and I’ll add them to the list. Jason will return in January and be our guest speaker as we discuss his book together.
Each month we meet at a location that offers food and drinks, including adult beverages.
