Introducing The Veterans Book Club: Good Books. Great Conversation.
Written/Narrated by: Â Ed Bejarana | Published on: August 30, 2026
There is something about a good book that makes you want to talk about it. Maybe it introduced an idea you had never considered, told a story that stayed with you long after you finished the last page, or simply gave you a few hours to disappear into another place and time.
Now, The Veterans Club is looking to bring readers together through a new program: The Veterans Book Club.
The Veterans Book Club will be open to veterans, first responders, and their family members who enjoy reading, conversation, and spending time with good people. Once a month, we’ll gather to discuss a selected book, share our thoughts, and probably discover that ten people can read the same book and come away with ten different perspectives.
And that’s exactly what will make it interesting.
More Than Just Reading a Book
Like everything we do at The Veterans Club, the real purpose isn’t simply the activity. It’s the connection that happens around it.
Books give us a natural starting point for conversation. They introduce ideas, experiences, history, characters, challenges, and perspectives that can lead a group in directions we might never reach through ordinary conversation.
Our selections won’t necessarily be limited to military or first responder subjects, either. The goal is to find books worth reading and worth talking about. That could include history, biography, fiction, leadership, adventure, local stories, or something completely unexpected.
When possible, we’d also like to feature local authors and invite them to join us. Imagine reading a book during the month and then sitting down with the person who wrote it to talk about the story, the research, the characters, and what inspired them to write it. North Idaho and the surrounding region have some wonderful writers, and we’d love to make those conversations part of the experience.
First, We Need Our Readers
We’re currently putting together the initial group, and we’re looking for at least ten people who are interested in participating.
There is no book assignment yet. There isn’t a meeting date to put on your calendar yet. Right now, we’re simply looking for veterans, first responders, and family members who are saying, “I’d like to be part of this.”
Once we have at least ten interested readers, we’ll bring the group together, select our first book, establish our monthly meeting schedule, and get The Veterans Book Club underway.
Whether you read a book every week or haven’t picked one up in a while, you’re welcome. You don’t have to be a literary expert, and nobody is going to give you a test at the end of the meeting. Read the book, bring your thoughts, grab a cup of coffee, and join the conversation.
Interested in joining The Veterans Book Club?
Email info@theveteransclub.org and let us know you’d like to participate.
Once we reach ten interested readers, we’ll choose our first book and start turning some good books into great conversations.
Connection. Purpose. Belonging. Sometimes it starts with simply turning the page.
