Western States Cat Opens Its Doors: A Grand Tour for The Veterans Club

On a recent morning, fourteen members of The Veterans Club gathered at Western States Cat in Hayden for something a little different from our usual Patriot Pour gatherings. Plant manager Adam welcomed us and led a two-hour-plus tour that took us deep into the maintenance shop, the maintenance yard, and one of the most impressive parts departments most of us had ever seen.

We walked among excavators, scrapers, and tractors both big and small. Some of the machines were massive enough that you felt their presence before you fully took in the details. Others were compact and precise. Standing next to them, you could see the engineering that goes into keeping heavy equipment reliable when the work is hard and the margins are thin. Adam and the team took their time, answering questions and letting us get a close look rather than rushing us through.

The parts department was a highlight. With more than 10,000 SKU items on hand, it is a serious operation—organized, extensive, and clearly built to keep machines moving. In a region where downtime can mean lost days on a job site or a delayed project, having that kind of inventory nearby matters. The shop itself reflected the same attention to detail: service bays, specialized tools, and the infrastructure needed to support both Cat equipment and mixed fleets.

What stood out as much as the machines was the hospitality. Adam and the Western States Cat team gave us real access and real time. They did not treat the tour as a quick walk-through. They invested the morning in a group of veterans, and they sent us home with free Cat hats. Those gestures are not lost on us.

At The Veterans Club, we talk a lot about connection, purpose, and still serving. Experiences like this fit that mission in a practical way. They give members a look at the kind of skilled work that keeps communities and industries running. They open doors to conversations about careers, training, and the equipment that supports construction, forestry, infrastructure, and more across North Idaho. And they remind us that strong local businesses are often willing to invest in the people who live and work here.

We are grateful to Adam and the entire Western States Cat Hayden team for the time, the access, and the welcome. If you missed this tour, do not miss the next one. We will share details as soon as another opportunity is scheduled. These visits are worth the drive, the morning, and the chance to see a major local operation from the inside.

Thank you, Western States Cat. The hats are appreciated—and so is the invitation.
